SERVPRO Technicians Assess the Flooding in Tampa

Sitting on the coast means Tampa sees their share of flooding and storms. It does not take a hurricane or some other form of extreme weather to generate enough wind and rain to send water into a home, rotting carpets and warping wood floors.

Restoring a home after flood damage in Tampa requires training, the right equipment, and rapid response to begin remediating damaged property. SERVPRO of West Tampa meets these requirements with industry-approved courses, access to a nationwide equipment and tool inventory, and an on-call, 24-hour restoration team of technicians and specialists.

Our team begins with a thorough inspection. The team leader makes certain the home is safe to enter after checking for structural integrity and if rising water compromised the electrical system. Once inside, the team quickly determines what equipment they need and which tasks take priority. Within minutes after arriving, work begins to restore the home.

In most cases, that means starting with removing the water. Depending on how quickly our team arrives on-site, they begin with a pump for water about ankle-high or higher. For very deep water, technicians have the option to use a truck-mounted pump that can run off the engine and stay in service overnight if needed.

For lower levels, team members use extraction wands to draw water out of the home. They can adjust the vacuum speed of these devices which makes them very useful to draw water from wooden floors and carpets without accidentally causing further damage.

After drawing water out of the carpets, specialists lift it off the floor and remove the pad underneath. To prevent the carpet layers separating or mold growth in the fibers, they next set up a combination of air movers and fans to dry the carpet and the concrete underneath it. Once they complete this procedure, SERVPRO of West Tampa specialists lay in a new pad and then stretch the carpet back in place.

If the home has wood floors, our technicians use the air movers and fans to remove water from between the floorboards. If they find water underneath the floor, team members carefully lift boards near walls or under furniture and insert a hose connected to an air mover to force warm air inside.

Technicians also augment these devices with dehumidifiers. Since even treated wood can warp quickly, removing moisture from the floorboards and the surrounding environment is even more important. The commercial dehumidifiers we use can remove up to 25 gallons every 24 hours.

At SERVPRO of West Tampa, it is our goal to return every home to its original, dry condition. If you are dealing with the effects of flooding in your home, call us today at (813) 855-0888 to schedule a visit.
